The NCEast Alliance’s State of the Region will take place on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 at the Greenville Hilton Hotel with opening remarks beginning at 9:00 a.m. Registration and networking will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The State of the Region is an annual event that provides an opportunity to learn about the activities the NCEast Alliance has generated for the region over the past year. Not only will attendees learn about NCEast Alliance, but will have the opportunity to network with peers in business & industry, education, economic development and government. This year’s event will focus on regional economic trends and forecasts, the impacts of transportation improvements on the region and activities at the ports that benefit the region.

 

Keynote Speaker, Ted Abernathy, Managing Partner of Economic Leadership LLC will open the event by taking attendees through a deep dive of the trends they can all expect, how we have been fairing economically, and what we can expect for the future.

 

Abernathy is an Eisenhower Fellow for global economics. Ted has 35 years of experience in directing economic development and workforce development programs. As a nationally known economic futurist, Ted speaks to about 100 groups annually on topics ranging from global trends to state and community economic competitiveness. 

 

Other presenters include Mark Sutherland, Economic Development Community Planner at the North Carolina Department of Commerce. Mr. Sutherland will discuss the impacts of transportation improvements in comparative region where he will explore commonalities among comparative communities and the implications for the future of our region. Paul J. Cozza, Executive Director of the North Carolina State Ports Authority and Russell Held, VP Economic Development Port of Virginia, will discuss improvements at the NC and VA ports respectively.

 

John D. Chaffee CEO, NCEast Alliance will close the event with the 2017 State of the Region which will provide an overview of the activity undertaken by the Alliance in 2016 and the results generated by said activity. The presentation will also address regional trends and the focus of the Alliance for 2017/2018.

 

The NCEast Alliance is excited to offer two breakout sessions following the State of the Region address. Participants will have the option to attend a session about Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) where they will learn about the benefits and opportunities offered by doing business in FTZ areas or a session about Retail Recruitment where attendees can learn about the trends affecting retail development. 

 

The event is open to the public. Admission to the event is $20, which includes a plated lunch.
