Julia “Julie” Crippen is an experienced grants professional with more than a decade of leadership in grant development, compliance, and strategic funding initiatives across higher education, local government, and regional workforce organizations. She currently serves as a Strategic Initiatives Team Lead with the North Carolina East Alliance (NCEA), where she identifies funding opportunities, manages cross‑functional grant teams, and supports projects that advance community growth, education, and workforce development across 27 eastern North Carolina counties. Julie received her master’s degree from East Carolina University. Her past work experience includes the North Carolina Community College System, including leadership roles at Pitt Community College, Wake Technical Community College, and Beaufort County Community College. Julie has coordinated more than 30 proposals across 20 teams, achieving a 78% success rate. Her earlier work in the K-12 system supported STEM initiatives, mentoring programs, and workforce development projects that strengthened student access and retention. She also worked for the Mid-East Commission, assisting with grant applications for community infrastructure and economic development.
