(GREENVILLE, NC) –
On Thursday, October 29 it was announced that STEM East has been awarded a 2020 STEMx Challenge Grant. The grant award is for $10,000 to fund a new program expanding STEM education in eastern North Carolina.

With support from the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center, STEM East will launch a museums@home program. Students in the program will connect with regional museums having specific areas of expertise such as the Aurora Fossil Museum and Sylvan Heights Bird Park. Each museums@home implementation will include classroom activities that culminate with a virtual Family STEM Night to celebrate and share student activities while exploring the wonders of our museums.

“The museums@home project highlights the efforts of STEM East to grow collaborative conversations between our regional museums, school districts, after-school programs, and libraries” says Bruce Middleton, Director STEM East. “We believe in the power of STEM educators working together closely in preparing students for life, work, and leisure in our local communities.”

STEM East was one of three leading STEM organizations to receive the grant. The other two grant awardees were the Idaho STEM Action Center and the Indiana STEM Ecosystem. Once all three organizations have completed their respective programs, they will share plans, resources, and lessons learned with the national STEMx network of 24 organizations in 19 states.
