Four-year institutions in North Carolina’s Eastern Region include a major state university and three private liberal arts colleges.
East Carolina University, located in Greenville, is the premier educational and research institution serving the Eastern Region. It is a Doctoral II research-intensive university and an important partner in the economic development of the Region.
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, and the College of Arts and Sciences provide intensive learning experiences using the latest instructional techniques and technology.
Engineering coursework at ECU encompasses the breadth of modern engineering practice with courses in Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Power, Electronics and Communications, Instrumentation Control & Automation, and Computer Systems engineering.
Barton College, located in Wilson, is a private 4-year liberal arts institutional and academic community of approximately 1,300 students and 200 faculty and staff. Nationally recognized for its programs in education, deaf education, nursing and social work and its championship men's athletic teams
Mount Olive College, located in Goldsboro, is a private liberal arts college offering programs designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Mount Olive College enrolls more than 3,300 students annually at its seven locations, including Goldsboro, Jacksonville, New Bern, Wilmington and Washington in the Eastern Region.
North Carolina Wesleyan College located in Rocky Mount NC, enrolls about 2,200 total with 900 students in the traditional program and 1,300 students enrolled in the evening college program.
Satellite Campuses
The Eastern Region is home to several satellite campuses of 4-year institutions based outside the region:
UNC-Chapel Hill Institute of Marine Science Located in Morehead City, studies at this campus center on marine biology, ecological studies, and related fields.
Duke University Nicholas School of Environment and Earth Sciences Also in Morehead City, the marine lab for the Nicholas School is utilized by students at all levels of collegiate studies.
NC State University Center for Marine Sciences and Technology Located on the Intracoastal Waterway near Beaufort, CMAST pursues multi-disciplinary research and learning on issues relating to the coastal environment.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Via on-site classroom instruction and distance learning, Embry-Riddle offers undergraduate and graduate courses in several aeronautical fields at its Goldsboro campus.
Central Michigan University CMU's Master's Program offers graduate level courses in general administration on site in Goldsboro.
