Drop Out Rates
High school drop out rates in the Eastern Region are inline with the state average. There are innovative efforts underway to bring those rates even lower.
The state of North Carolina consistently works to provide better academic opportunities and outcomes for all students. Specific programs aimed at lowering the dropout rate include the Literacy Coaches program and Learn and Earn Early College High Schools. The Literacy Coaches program added 100 literacy coaches for middle schools, increasing the total number to 200. The Learn and Earn Early College high schools provide students, particularly non-traditional college students or those who could be first-generation college students, with the opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree at no cost while profiting from the supervision and support of high school faculties.
