Guardian Building Products to Open New Distribution Center in Nash Cou

Guardian Building Products Distribution, based in Greenville, SC, will open a new distribution facility in Rocky Mount on March 1st. The center will distribute fiberglass insulation, roofing and accessories, ventilation products and other building supplies to customers in southeast Virginia and Eastern North Carolina to the Outer Banks area. When fully operational, the distribution center will employ 8-10 people.

Jacksonville Site For Center

Florida-based outsourced customer management firm PRC recently set up an inbound call center in Jacksonville. The third domestic location the company has opened in 12 months, this operation will bring about 600 jobs to the region. Company officials say that Jacksonville's unemployment rate and strong work ethic played a major role in choosing to locate to this area.

NCER Board Reorganizes

The North Carolina's Eastern Region Board met on February 8 to elect a slate of new officers including Calvin Anderson of Whitakers as Chairman. Also during the meeting, Tom Greenwood (NCER Executive Director) and the Board reached an agreement to end Greenwood's contract after eleven years of service. Sylvia Nesbitt, Chief Financial Officer, will serve as Acting Executive Director until a new Director is hired.

Joint Meeting—SPC and NCER Commissioners

The Strategic Planning Committee and the North Carolina's Eastern Region board held a joint meeting in Kinston on January 5th. This was the first meeting of the two groups since the board was reconfigured by legislation last year. The collective group was given an update on the Visioning process before dividing into breakout groups for priority setting discussions. Detailed action items and ideas on how the successes should be measured emerged from the meeting.

Lenox announces $2.5 million expansions

The Lenox Company will add 100 jobs and spend $2.5 million to expand its plant in Kinston. Lenoir County will pay the company $60,000 over three years as an incentive for job creation. The company hopes to start construction soon on their 30,000 square foot storage building. Lenox has been in Kinston since 1989 and has the distinction of being the only Lenox manufacturing facility in the United States.
